The Paradox of Negative Emotions

부정적인 감정이 주체에게 되돌아오는 자기 파괴적 속성을 '모순'이라는 키워드로 설계한 작업입니다. 공격성의 상징인 카타나는 내면의 날 선 감정을, 잎사귀 하나 없이 메마른 채 칼을 옥죄는 덩굴은 자기 억압을 상징합니다.
감추려 할수록 거스러미처럼 삐죽삐죽 드러나는 무의식의 파편들을 시각적 장치로 배치했습니다. 억압된 감정이 결국 칼자루를 밀어내고 가시처럼 터져 나오는 연출은, 스스로를 보호하기 위한 방어기제가 본질적으로 자신을 해치게 되는 모순적 메커니즘을 관통합니다.
This project is designed around the keyword 'Paradox,' exploring the self-destructive nature of negative emotions that ultimately recoil upon the subject. The Katana, a symbol of aggression, embodies sharp internal emotions, while the dry, leafless vines that tighten around the blade represent self-suppression.
I placed visual cues to represent fragments of the unconscious that, like a hangnail, defiantly emerge the more one tries to hide them. The direction—where suppressed emotions eventually push out the hilt and burst forth like thorns—penetrates the paradoxical mechanism of a defense mechanism that essentially harms the subject it was intended to protect.
